Week 3 Reflection

This week was probably the busiest week I have had on senior project. Although I only released two pages throughout the week they were both good pages in my opinion. On Tuesday I did a page about the wonderful weather. I felt that this page was becoming a necessity because the weather had been so beautiful for more than one day. The whole week was gorgeous so I decided to make something of it. I wanted my last page to be good, but I also wanted it to mean something at the same time. As shown by all of my other previous pages it is obvious that my idea of good is humorous, and I was not looking for humorous so much this time, and so began the scouting for ideas. I asked most of my friends and eventually came to the conclusion that they are my friends because they think mostly how I do in the sense that they wanted to see something funny to and I knew that the idea would not be found among these people but among other people, that I am not social with. From there I headed right to my parents. Immediately my father requested a page to be done about Memorial Day because he felt it needed to be remembered now. I liked the idea and pursued it but I did not want to soak the readers with facts so I took something that I thought everyone should know about and did my best to make it into something that everyone would want to know about. This was hard because as much as I wanted to be funny, this was something that I thought people should care about so I had to refrain from making jokes about anything. Organization has become second nature to me and I feel like that is the largest thing that I have taken from this project.

Today I spent most of my day working on ideas for a page for Friday. After a discussion with my father I decided to make my last page about Memorial Day that is coming up this weekend. I myself am not very knowledgeable about the subject so I requested the aid of Hunter Fifield who is an ace history student, and a wonderful friend.

May 20th, 2009

Today I wanted to get a page out, and I could'nt help but work outside because of how nice the weather was, so I decided to dedicate my page to the wonderful weather we have been having here at Proctor. Being the last week of classes I have been having a little trouble focusing because it is all just starting to hit me that I am graduating in nine days. I hope to put out a page on Thursday and Friday. i want them both to be very good seeing as how they will be my last.

May 19th, 2009

I saw Chuck early this morning and I asked him in all honesty what to do for my next page because I was running out of ideas. He made me aware that not every page I do has to be comical or goofy in that sense. But I should try to do something that was more factual, more like an investigative report. I spent the day shooting and pondering this idea from my wise elder, and I think after yet another suggestion from Chuck, the best thing now would be to investigate a senior project, find out how things are going, and what is not going so well, and what the person, or people like about what they are doing.

Today was a little different to say the least. I spent the whole morning getting ready to announce the yearbook dedication, this made me nervous because I had never been up in front of assembly to make a serious announcement before. To start at this level of dedicating the yearbook was slightly terrifying. I also sat in on a Calculus and Biology class because after all this time on senior project I have started to miss the hourly social interactions with teachers and other students. I then went home in order to celebrate my brothers birthday with him.

2nd week reflection

This week started out slowly for me. My first page came out on Tuesday and it did not have much of a theme. I started to notice a slight pattern in my work habits throughout the week as they slowly diminished to almost nothing. With this newly founded knowledge I decided that I needed to put out pages on Thursday and Friday and both needed to be very good. So that is exactly what I did. On Thursday I released a page on how hard it is to be, and to work with, Chuck. Of course the whole page was full of sarcasm because working with Chuck is some of the most fun I’ve had since I got to Proctor. I also wanted to add a little something special to the page so I spent a bit of time working on an artist’s depiction photo of myself. I wanted to portray how being with Chuck made me feel. If you look closely enough you will see me sporting a tank top and large muscles that are unrealistic for anybody to have.
On Friday I decided to start my day out as no human should, with a 190 degree sauna and some cold water at six in the morning; I polar swam. After receiving the most intense wake up call of my life I made my way from breakfast, (where I enjoyed my first cup of tea ever, I might add), back to the office where I worked until Assembly in order to get my next big page out. Just like Thursday’s, this one needed to be a humdinger. I wanted it to be less frivolous then the previous one, so I chose to write about how here at Proctor everyone is capable of balancing their work and play, even sometimes mixing the two together in order to make things more interesting, because in all honesty nobody wants to be doing something that they don’t enjoy.
The week may have started off slowly, but it ended with a bang. Overall I think that my pages this week were better than last week’s. Next week I’m going to focus on maintaining a consistent work ethic, which will benefit me greatly now and in the future!

May 14th, 2009

I spent most of today lingering around campus and shooting whatever appealed to me. I also spent some time with Duncan and Danny checking out their tree house that they are doing for senior project and I thoroughly enjoyed seeing it because tree houses are awesome. My afternoon was dedicated to pushing out another page that I would consider so far, my favorite. I used photoshop to create an artist depiction of myself that I think represents who I am for the most part. I noticed that I was not being as productive as I was last week so I decided to step it up for today and tomorrow and hopefully get another page out tomorrow!

May 13th, 2009

I spent today preparing for what I am hoping to be my best page for my whole project. I want to make a page about me making a page, but as you can see it sounds confusing, and it kind of is. This is where my true test of my organization skills will come in. I also spent some time making an artist rendition photo of myself to put on the page so people could see where the wonderful things they read come from.

May 12th, 2009

When I arrived today I immediately jumped onto the work I was close to finishing yesterday and I put out another page, this time without any common theme. I did my best to make sure I was choosing pictures that would be able to inter twine with each other in the end so even though I did not have a common theme, the pictures would not just seem irrelevant to each other. I spent my afternoon shooting for my next page which I am trying something a bit new with. I am going to make a page that is about me making a page, although it seems confusing I think I can make it happen in a comical manner which is my main goal, to make people laugh.

Today when I first arrived at development I immediately started to go through my pictures of just random things, whether it be a sporting event or just people hanging out. I wanted to make a page unlike the others in the sense that it did not necessarily have a theme to it. I got all of my pictures chosen, edited and uploaded but did not get to post the site. I then spent the rest of my time working for development directly by getting the senior slide show going for graduation. Once again I was forced to be organized because I had to make sure every senior appeared in the slide show.

Weekly Reflections

I enjoyed this week very much. I spent most of the first day getting a hang of the tools that I would be using for the rest of my time on senior project. I was already familiar with Lightroom and Photoshop because these are programs that I have used in other classes in the past.
The hardest thing for me to do was get organized, because I am not an organized person. However, when I make a page I must make sure that every picture I have edited in a certain way is matched with photos that have also been edited similarly. After my second page I started to get a good rhythm going which allowed me to produce pages more frequently.
I enjoyed what I was doing because this is a project that allows me to always be doing something that I love and to be with friends while I do it. It is my job to take pictures of things that are going on, and wherever things are going on, there are people enjoying them. I think the reason Chuck asked me to take over “Student Voices” was because before it was just students who had a little free time putting up pages every once and a while. But now that it is my project I can be putting up pages as often as Chuck’s Corner appears — or even more often.
Overall there were not any surprises that I didn’t see coming. One thing that did surprise me was that people do actually take the time to read Student Voices, and most of the feedback I’ve gotten so far has been good. I know my pages do need to be a bit longer, and the newer ones will be.
The major skill I have gained from this week’s work is organization. My room at home is very messy, my school bag is very messy, but everything I have that has to do with my senior project is in order and is always somewhere where I know I can find it.

I spent my whole morning including assembly pushing out another page on the band that was here for Earth Day "The Revision." After that I spent the rest of the day socializing with a camera in hand so I was ready for any kind of picture that came my way. I did not have a theme for which I was shooting but I did want pictures of things just to have in case they come in handy on a different page later on.

May 7th, 2009

When I first arrived today I immediately jumped into the action taking pictures of the projects happening for Earth Day. I then jumped on a car ride to Brenda's house in order to see what her group was doing off campus at her house. After lunch I spent my whole afternoon shooting the band "The Revision Amplification" until they finished a little after four. This was a very fun day for me because the band was amazing and I got to take pictures of them as my job.

May 6th, 2009

When I woke up this morning I said to myself, "I am way to tired to do anything." I was more wrong than I have ever been about anything. Withing my first hour of arriving at chucks I had finished and published another (my 2nd) blog page on "smiling." I enjoyed this one much more than the first because I felt that it was more interesting for the reader and it was also something that I could look at over and over and it would make me smile.

I spent the rest of the day lingering around campus, lunch and assorted sporting events in order to gain a better collection of photos to use for the next upcoming pages. I do plan to do a page on other senior projects soon so I did go and find a list of all the projects that are on and off campus that way I could fine people.

May 5, 2009

When I arrived this morning my first task was to finish what I was very close to finishing the previous day, my first page. I have posted the link right below so you can see it straight from here. I learned the hard way how important it is to make sure that I get everything down to a science that way my mistakes do not turn into more work than I want to do. I then spent my lunch time taking more photos for the next page I plan on doing about the most attractive smiles around campus, thats right, smiles. I returned to development with the idea that I would spend the afternoon getting my next page ready for publishing the next day, but I was asked to fold and package a letter to every parent of every student on campus from Mike regarding the swine Flu and what Proctor is doing to keep us safe. I finished at about 4:15, 15 minutes later than yesterday, thus, I am an over achiever.

First Page!!!

May 4th, 2009

Today started a bit differently than most days will. I had to get everything I would need for the next few weeks in order and ready to go. First I needed Lightroom on my laptop in order to ahve a place to store my photos and make very small edits to pictures. I also needed photoshop in order to re-size photos correctly to fit the site and to make larger editing adjustments to the pictures. After assembly I had made the decision that my first page would be done on the kitchen and its wonderful staff. I spent my time up until lunch taking pictures of them as they went about there daily work. After lunch I returned to the office in development and started getting to work on the pictures themselves, and after a quick lesson and a couple paths of trial and error I was making progress again. By the end of the day I have left myself off where my first page should be out tomorrow at some point.
